ST8411 synchronous rectifier controller for 5V supply

ST8411 3~6V Synchronous Rectifier Controller

ST8411

The ST8411 is a high-performance secondary-side synchronous rectification driver for 3~6V system output, replacing the freewheeling diode of a conventional flyback with a low-Ron N-channel MOSFET to improve efficiency and simplify thermal design, supporting DCM and QR modes. It senses the SR MOSFET drain voltage to control gate turn-on/turn-off with a 70ns turn-on delay and 50ns turn-off delay. Built-in output-voltage detection starts operation above 3V, pulls down to prevent no-load voltage drift above 5.45V, and applies a strong pull-down above 6V for over-voltage protection, providing an efficient and safe solution for 5V power supplies. Housed in a SOP8 package for adapters, single-cell Li-ion chargers, ADSL modems, portable devices and backup/auxiliary supplies.

Overview

The ST8411 is a high-performance secondary-side synchronous rectification driver chip. By driving an internal low on-resistance N-channel MOSFET, it replaces the freewheeling diode on the secondary side of a conventional flyback power supply, improving system efficiency and simplifying thermal design. The ST8411 detects the internal SR MOSFET drain voltage to control the SR MOSFET gate turn-on and turn-off, and can be applied in DCM and QR mode flyback systems. The ST8411 features an output-voltage detection function: when the output voltage is above 3V the device starts operating; when it rises above 5.45V an internal 3mA pull-down current prevents the system output voltage from drifting up under no-load conditions; and when an output voltage above 6V is detected, a strong pull-down current is applied, providing an efficient, safe and simple solution for 5V power supplies.
